The family of Myrna Vest is saddened to announce her passing from congestive heart failure on February 8, 2017. She was deeply grounded in her Christian faith which guided her unconditional love of family and friends, strong principles and unwavering hope for the future. Myrna and Jim, who met in high school, were married for 70 years.

Myrna was born and raised in her beloved Huntington WVA. She was a stellar student, classical pianist, tutor to other students and enjoyed local high school football games with her parents, with whom she was extraordinarily close.

Myrna received a scholarship to Mary Baldwin College, which was the only way her father would let her leave Huntington. She attended Mary Baldwin College until she and Jim were married, at which time she attended and graduated from Farmville State Teachers College as Jim was finishing his degree in chemical engineering close by. Myrna and Jim lived in Wilmington DE for 65+ years.

Beyond her family and friends, Myrna's greatest passion was gardening, a wonderful trait she inherited from her mother and carried throughout her life. She found particular joy in growing orchids, which she generously shared with family and friends. Another passion was travelling. Myrna and Jim were fortunate to have traveled to most parts of the world, accompanied often by her parents and/or children. Myrna was a great 'communicator' both in speaking and in writing. She effortlessly kept up with all past and present friends, sending cards on every significant date often accompanied by at least one newspaper clipping, demonstrating that she was thinking about you. One of her greatest joys in life was the group of very dear friends, known as 'the best friends', with whom she shared most of her adult life. They all knew each other before children came along, considered each other extended family, were all Godparents to the other's children and often vacationed together. For 60+ years, Myrna and Jim spent winters with her parents in Ft. Lauderdale FL.

Myrna faithfully attended the Episcopal Church throughout her life and was a member of St. Alban's Church for 50+ years, serving on Vestry and other committees.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years James M. Vest Jr. of Wilmington DE, Anne Vest Marstiller of Middleburg VA, her husband Philip S. Marstiller, George G. Vest of Wilmington DE, three grandsons William N. Vest of Lin Ye City China, his wife Aurora, Thomas M. Vest also of Lin Ye City and Paul Vest of Charlotte, NC. Myrna is predeceased by a son James M. Vest III.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday June 10, 2017 at St. Albans Church, 913 Wilson Road in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Myrna's memory to Holy Cross Hospital 4725 N. Federal Hwy, Ft. Lauderdale FL 33308 or the Delaware Orchid Society.
