Phyllis Jean (nee Easler) Porter, 82, of Hockessin, DE, passed away March 26, 2015. Phyllis was born at her grandparents' house in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the late Baxton (Joe) and Mamie Easler. In early childhood, her family moved with Joe's Navy postings, living in several places including California where Phyllis' life-long love of tamales began. The Easlers eventually settled in Norfolk, Virginia. Phyllis was a 1950 graduate of Norfolk's Granby High School and the College of William & Mary, Class of 1954.

Several years after graduating from college, she and high school friend, Bob Porter, decided they were more than friends and subsequently enjoyed 53 years of happy marriage. They moved many, many times over those 53 years. Phyllis was an elementary and special education teacher in several states, worked sales at an herb farm and a Hallmark store, coded tax forms for the IRS, and, in all cases, kept the household running. Along the way, she earned a Master's in Education from SUNY-Oneonta. Phyllis never met a stranger and, after 10 minutes in a checkout line, knew the names and family history of everyone there. Her caring will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; son-in-law, Dave; and her parents. Phyllis is survived by son, Robert and his wife, Karen; daughter, Susan; grandson, Michael; sister-in-law, Marian; nephews Meade and Brad; and many dear cousins.

Services will be held at 1:30 on Friday, April 10 at Grace Lutheran Church, 2033 Graves Rd, Hockessin, DE 19707 where friends may call beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Williamsburg, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403. www.cbf.org (410) 268-8816.
